Steve Mitchell has designed on both coasts over a twenty-year career that spans the theatre, themed entertainment, film, and television. Credits include: “Broadway” at The Actors Gang directed by David Schweizer (1999 Ovation Nomination), “American Bullfighter” at The Mark Taper Forum’s New Works Festival directed by Lisa Petersen, “The Einstein Project” at The Berkshire Theatre Festival, “West Side Story” at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, “Mousieur Shaharezad” at the Garden Grove directed by Jessica Kubzansky, “Irish Strawberries” at The Director’s Company (Off-Off Broadway), “The Nina Variations” at The Miniature Theatre of Chester, “A Lion In Winter” at Santa Fe Playhouse, “A Streetcar Named Desire” at Venice Theatre, and “Dreamgirls” at the Historic Asolo. He assisted Broadway designers Eduardo Sicangco, Robert Brill, and James Noone.

In other arenas Mr. Mitchell has designed sets for Walt Disney Entertainment, Universal Creative (Shanghai and Florida parks), Nickelodeon Studios, two feature films as illustrator and art director (“Sometimes They Come Back..Again”, and “What’s Cookin?”) and  corporate event companies in New York.  Also as designer and art director:  Walt Disney Entertainment, CBS Sports, Universal Creative, Nickelodeon Studios, films “Sometimes They Come Back..Again” and “What’s Cookin?”and “A Dolphin’s Tale”.

Steve has recently made his home in St. Petersburg, Florida and is currently teaching set design at his alma mater, the University of South Florida.  He has tapped into the vibrant St. Pete theatre scene,  co-designing Jekyl and Hyde with Eric Davis of Free Fall Theatre at Studio@620 and Man of La Mancha in Free Fall’s new space, “The Men” with director Bob Devin Jones at Studio 620, “Twelfth Night” with director Julia Flood of Eckerd Theatre Company and “Spring Awakening” with director Kelly Woodland at Venice Theatre.

Steve’s training includes a BFA in set design from USF, an MFA from Cal Arts and a summer intensive with Ming Cho Lee at the Kennedy Center.
